Adult echocardiography, also known as adult transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), is a non-invasive imaging technique used to assess the structure and function of the heart in adult patients. It is one of the most commonly performed cardiac imaging tests and provides detailed information about the heart's chambers, valves, and overall function. During an adult echocardiogram, a specially trained technician called a sonographer, places a small handheld device called a transducer on the patient's chest. The transducer emits high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound) that bounce off the heart structures and create real-time images of the heart on a monitor.
